And every week, your church records the same number of new converts. Zero. Or maybe one — the one who walked in on their own.

Your pastor keeps preaching about soul winning. "Every member a soul winner!" he thunders from the pulpit. But you sit there, nodding… pretending you get it… while internally you are begging God for an excuse not to go next Saturday.

You've watched other workers — the confident ones — walk up to complete strangers and within minutes, that person is in tears, praying, giving their life to Christ. And you wonder: "What do they have that I don't?"

Hi, my name is Bro. Emeka.

First thing you should know about me is that I am NOT a pastor. I am NOT a trained evangelist. I'm just a regular church worker from Ibadan who was terrified of talking to strangers — and who saw hell for years because of it.

Let me tell you my story.

It started in 2019. I had just been appointed as an usher in my church, Light of the World Gospel Assembly in Ibadan. I was proud. My wife, Kemi, was proud. My children were proud.

But three months into the role, our pastor announced a soul-winning initiative. Every department had a target. The ushers' target: five new converts per month per worker.

I froze.

Five souls? Every month? Me?

I am an introvert by nature. I work as a secondary school teacher in Bodija. I am comfortable in front of students because I control that environment. But strangers? Random people on the street? In markets? At bus stops?

That was a completely different thing.

My first Saturday of evangelism was a disaster.

I walked up to a man selling groundnut near Bodija market. I said, "Good morning sir, do you know Jesus?" He looked at me like I had lost my mind. Then he said, "Are you not the one supposed to be buying something?"

I was embarrassed. I gave him a tract and walked away. Fast.

For the next six months, I showed up every Saturday — and came back with zero converts. My team leader stopped pairing me with new workers because I made them look bad. My pastor didn't say anything directly, but I could feel the quiet disappointment.

At home, the tension was building. Kemi would ask how evangelism went. I would say "fine" and change the subject. She knew I was struggling but she didn't know how bad it was.

Then one evening, I overheard our departmental coordinator talking to another worker. She said, "Emeka is sweet but he is not cut out for this. Some people just can't win souls."

I went home that night and sat in the dark in my room for two hours.

Am I really useless in this? Is this not my calling? What kind of Christian can't even lead one person to Christ?

My father-in-law — Papa Kemi, we all call him — noticed something was wrong when he visited that December. He pulled me aside after dinner and said something I'll never forget:

"Emeka, a man who has not found a system is a man who will always depend on emotion. And emotion is unreliable. Find your system."

Those words stayed with me. But I still didn't know what system to find.

I tried everything I could find.

I tried the Romans Road — the famous evangelism method using scriptures from the book of Romans. The problem? I would start, the person would interrupt with a question, and I'd lose my place and panic.

I tried tract evangelism — just handing out tracts and walking on. But I noticed most people dropped the tracts in the gutter before they reached the next corner.

I tried open-air preaching — standing in a crowd and shouting. I managed to do it once. It was humiliating. People walked past me like I was invisible.

I tried house-to-house visitation — knocking on doors in our neighbourhood. Most people didn't open. The ones who did were polite but clearly uncomfortable. Nobody prayed with me.

I tried friendship evangelism — the idea that you build a relationship first and slowly introduce Jesus. I spent four months befriending my neighbour, Mr. Adebayo. When I finally mentioned Jesus, he said, "Ah, Emeka, abeg o. I know where my church is." And that was the end of that.

Nothing worked. Not one method.

I was ready to resign from active church service when everything changed — at a church convention in Sagamu.

It was the June 2022 annual Workers' Convention for our district. About 400 workers from different branches gathered at a conference centre near Sagamu. On the second evening, after the main service, we broke into small discussion groups.

That's when I met Pa Emmanuel Adeyemi.

Pa Emmanuel — we called him "Baba Agba" — was 70 years old. Retired schoolteacher. Humble man. He sat quietly in the corner of our group, and when people were talking about their evangelism struggles, he just nodded slowly.

At some point, someone asked him, "Baba, how have you been winning souls all these years? You've been in active evangelism for 40 years. What's your secret?"

He smiled. Then he said something that stopped the whole room:

"I don't preach at people. I have a conversation with them. And the conversation follows a simple structure that takes less than 7 minutes. After 7 minutes, they either say yes to Jesus or they don't. But they always listen. And most of them say yes."

You could hear a pin drop.

Someone asked, "Baba, what's the structure?"

He paused. Looked around the group. Then said:

"The problem with most of you is that you are trying to convince people. You cannot convince anyone of anything. What you can do is ask the right questions in the right order, and let them convince themselves. That is the system. Questions. Not sermons."

I leaned forward in my chair.

He continued: "In 7 minutes, if you follow the structure, any sincere person will be open to Christ. Not because you were clever. But because the questions unlocked what was already inside them."

I honestly did not believe him at first.

Seven minutes? That's stupidly simple, I thought. There has to be more to it than that.

But Baba Agba wasn't the kind of man who exaggerated. Every branch in our district knew his track record. He had personally led over 3,000 people to Christ in 40 years of ministry. And he did it working full-time as a teacher, not as a pastor.

So that night, I asked him to write down the structure for me.

He laughed. "I don't write it down. I'll just tell you. And you'll practice it until your mouth can say it in your sleep."

He spent the next 45 minutes explaining the 7-Minute System to our small group.

When I got back to my room that night, I wrote down everything I could remember. Then I practiced it. Out loud. In front of the mirror. Again and again.

The next morning, I went out for the convention's community evangelism session. I was nervous. My hands were sweaty.

But I followed the structure.

The first person I approached was a man in his 40s selling phone accessories near a junction. I started the conversation exactly as Baba Agba taught. One question. Then another. Then another.

At exactly 6 minutes 40 seconds (I was watching my phone timer), the man bowed his head and prayed the prayer of salvation.

I stood there staring at him like I had seen a miracle.

Because for me… it was a miracle.

I went back to my room and cried.

I called Kemi immediately. "Kemi! I just led someone to Christ! I used a system! It worked!"

She went quiet for a moment. Then she said, "Emeka... are you crying?"

"Yes," I said.

She said, "Good. Now go and do it again."

That weekend, using the 7-Minute System, I led 7 people to Christ in 2 days.

When I got home, Kemi looked at me differently. She said, "Something changed about you. You're walking different."

She was right. The fear was gone. Completely gone. Not because I became a different person — but because I now had a structure. A system. I knew exactly what to say and when to say it. I didn't have to improvise. I didn't have to depend on emotions or inspiration. I just followed the steps.

My father-in-law called the following week. Kemi had told him. He said, "Emeka, you see? A system. I told you."

Three other workers from our convention group also tried the system that same weekend.

Brother Kehinde from Abeokuta used it at a motor park and led 4 people to Christ in one afternoon. Sister Ngozi from Enugu used it at her workplace and led 2 colleagues to Christ before lunch break. Brother Femi from Lagos Island used it at a family gathering and led his own uncle — who had refused Jesus for 20 years — to finally surrender.

The system wasn't magic. But it was reliable.

And reliable is everything in soul winning.

After I shared my story at a few church conferences, the requests started flooding in. Workers from other branches were asking me to come and train them. My pastor started sending me to other churches. My phone was constantly ringing.

I couldn't keep up with everyone individually. So I made a decision.
